Pyometra is the infection of the uterus in un-spayed females.
Symptoms may include:
- a foul smelling discharge from the vulva
- not eating
- vomiting
- lethargy
Toxins and bacteria can leak across the uterine walls and into the bloodstream which can cause life-threatening effects. In order to confirm the infection blood tests may be run and either an X-ray or an ultrasound may be performed. The recommended treatment is to surgically remove the uterus and antibiotics.
Contact us to schedule a pyometra test if your cat has any of the above symptoms.
